Here are some of the plays we have enjoyed over the last year or two -
Oscar Wilde's witty comedy/farce The Importance of Being Earnest; Terence Rattigan's comedy-drama Before Dawn, based on the opera Tosca but with a very different twist on the original tragedy; Dead Ringer by Charles Ross, a comedy-mystery unfolding when the Prime Minister meets sudden death on the eve of a General Election; Under Milkwood by Dylan Thomas, originally commissioned by the BBC for radio, famously read by Richard Burton; Far from The Madding Crowd a delightful play adapted from Thomas Hardy's novel of the same name; Pictures of Clay, an interesting historical drama exploring the harrowing events of the Pendle Witch Trials.
As many real-life productions run for around 2hrs we have recently extended our session from 2 to 3 hours (10am - 1pm). This gives a little time for a chat plus an introduction to the day's play, with time for some discussion afterwards, and maybe a short break in between.
If you would like to join in as a reader or pop in to listen you are welcome to attend one of our session. As for as possible, everyone who attends will be given a script and a part to read if you wish. No acting skills needed other than reading aloud in the sprit of your assigned role. And it's fine to just listen if that's what you prefer. If you would like to join us for a taster session and would like to read please use the Play Reading Group Leader link above to email me (Sue) in advance so that you can be assigned a part.
